Music school MOKRANJAC consists of three levels of education: musical nursery, elementary and secondary education. The children of five or six may enter the music nursery and have two classes a week all the year round which are the introduction into the studying of an intrument. The most gifted are allowed to attend classes of the piano, violin, etc. during the second term. In that way, the music nursery represents the theoretical and practical preparation for the entrance examination and enterance into the elementary music school. Elementary musical education for piano, string intruments (violin, viola, cello) and for the harpiscord lasts for six years; for wind intruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, basson, horn, trumpet, trombone) and the double-bass lasts for four years; for solo singing it is two years. Secondary education lasts for four years and apart from the vocal and instrumental department there is also the theoretical department as well as the deparment for general cultural education for those students who concentrated themselves to the music only. There is a special place in the work of the School for the choir and orchestra of the elementary school, a mixed choir and simphonic orchestra of the secondary school as well the chamber ensembles. The latest department, the ethnomusicology, both at the level of elementary and secondary education was founded with the intention of preserving and developing the best traditions of the Serbian original folk music through folk singing and playing at the folk instruments and it is directly connected to the ethnomusicological department at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. The tuition is held on two locations. In the building in the 6, Mose Pijade street where are: school adminitration and the department for piano and harp, and in the building in the 8, Proleterskih brigada street there are: departments for string and wind intruments , solo singing, chamber music and general cultural education. Music school MOKRANJAC has a very valuable set of instruments and a rich library with more than 12 000 copies of books and sheet music.
